Last Saturday, Banff mechanic Tim Bartlett was christening a new motorcycle through the Rocky Mountains when he had a rare wildlife encounter that was equal parts terrifying and enchanting. On a stretch of British Columbia’s Highway 93, a massive grey wolf emerged from the trees, lunged at his speeding ride and chased after him at full speed as he pulled away.

The story would have become little more than another legend clanging around the roadhouses of Western Canada if Mr. Bartlett had not whipped a camera out of his top pocket to record the event for posterity; capturing a series of rare snapshots that have since been beamed around the world. The site, upei.ca/coyote, will provide data about this non-native species that first arrived on the Island in the early 1980s. The project is called the Advanced Coyote Mapping Exercise, or ACME.

“It is important to know as much as possible about our coyote population before we can rationalize any approach to co-existing with these animals,” said Dr. Rob Löfstedt, professor of Theriogenology in the Department of Health Management at UPEI’s Atlantic Veterinary College. “Current estimates of the coyote population are based on pelt numbers, and their effects on farm animals, pets, and humans are based on anecdotal information. This site will help to substantiate this knowledge.”

Dr. Löfstedt encourages Islanders with first-hand coyote experiences to visit upei.ca/coyote and record their findings. Visitors to the site will also be able to track the accumulated reports on a map of Prince Edward Island.

If a coyote is seen, sighting can be reported by entering the key words “coyote,” “acme,” and “UPEI” on any computer. This will bring up a site where they can report their observations. Those findings, and all the others reported on PEI will be available for them to see immediately.

My new Alaskan cross fox. This guy is HUGE! He puts all other fox I have worked on to shame. His fur is so dense and soft. I love him! He just needs a few minor repairs to his face where the leather was shaved too thin and he is ready to mount.

If anyone has a cross fox face for sale I could use for repairs please let me know. I need to replace a tiny area just below the left eye and just in front of the right ear (they are barely noticeable due to the long winter coat).

Since my Hobbit coord is so unexpectedly popular I decided to take a swing at an Elvish one. It was definitely harder, but also a fun challenge! I ended up with a coord that I think Arwen would wear for traveling; elegant but practical. Once again, everything is offbrand/thrifted. I hope you like it :)

I don’t think I can accurately describe how much I love this little guy. The bottom most picture is what I come out to every time I go into the bedroom or bathroom without him.
In the month and a half that we’ve had Vader, we’ve gone through some trials and tribulations, but he’s bonded to us in a way no other pet I’ve ever had has. When I come home to him wagging his tail and whining excitedly, I just want to cry with joy. Some people say a fox is a wild animal, and that it will never love you like a dog or a cat would- if what Vader shows us isn’t love, then I don’t know what is!♥
